Maritime Search and Rescue Drill – Wireless Communication Support by Suntor

Project Background   Maritime search and rescue involves organized search and aid operations in response to accidents at sea. Compared with land-based rescues, maritime operations are more unpredictable, technically challenging, and costly. To improve emergency response capabilities, identify potential gaps, and enhance coordination among departments, the Tianjin Maritime Safety Administration conducted a large-scale maritime search and rescue drill.   Project Requirements   Within a 5-nautical-mile range, the exercise involved one main command vessel and six auxiliary vessels. Each vessel was equipped with broadcast-grade cameras. The command vessel needed to maintain real-time voice and video communication with all auxiliary vessels, ensuring accurate decision-making and timely command delivery. Furthermore, critical video data had to be transmitted via satellite to the Maritime Safety Administration’s ground command center, ensuring uninterrupted coordination between sea and land.   Wireless Communication Solution   To meet these demands, Suntor deployed its specialized maritime ad-hoc wireless mesh communication system, designed to adapt to challenging environments and ensure stable performance at sea.   Key Features of Suntor’s Solution: Decentralized same-frequency networking Flexible and fast multi-node networking Supports any network topology High-bandwidth data transmission in motion Strong anti-interference and anti-multipath performance High disaster recovery and reliability Secure and confidential communication Full IP-based interconnection with multi-service support   This solution ensured robust real-time video, voice, and data transmission, even under complex maritime conditions.   Field Testing and Results   Given the critical importance of the drill, Suntor’s solution was tested alongside other leading domestic communication systems. Through comparative trials, Suntor stood out with superior transmission speed, interference resistance, and overall performance. The Maritime Safety Administration ultimately chose Suntor as the exclusive communication support provider.   To date, Suntor has successfully supported five field tests with the Maritime Safety Administration, each achieving excellent results and receiving positive client feedback.
